Carolyn and Lindsay are talking about claiming your life’s path and purpose .

Q. Tell us a little about yourself
I’m a physician with an intense interest in holistic health. I see the body, mind, spirit as needing equal amounts of  care. I recently decided to retire from my surgery job, because I want to devote myself to this holistic practice. I want to teach people to take care of themselves, instead of handing out prescriptions and removing vital organs.

Q. Tell us about your path to creating your business and your vision
I started out as a traditional surgeon, but I always had an interest in the holistic side of health. I took a class in medical school with Jon Kabat-Zin – father of the mindfulness meditation movement in the US – and I saw how much my mind, my spirit, dictated my health. It took me a long time to get here, nearly 20 years. I needed to do the deep inner work to be able to be of service truly. To be a physician, I can hand out prescriptions and remove organs. But to serve, to truly serve as a healthcare provider, I had to be able to listen deeply, connect with the other person’s soul and spirit. When I began to be able to do that, I saw that it was time for me to move away from traditional medicine and begin serving the whole patient, body, mind, soul.

Q. Tell us a little about yourself and your philosophy on wellness:
I am a true believer in the Law of Attraction. I believe that your wellness is based completely on what you believe, on what you allow yourself, on how your vibration, your emotional balance, is on a daily basis.

Q. What was the catalyst in your life to fuel your commitment to wellness?
I was a sickly child, always having problems with eczema, asthma, digestive issues. I learned in my 20s that I could control these problems with better physical health – eat properly, exercise. But that only controlled it and I would quickly get ill if I slipped in my diet or missed my workouts. In medical school, I took a class in stress management from Jon Kabat-Zin. I had only a vague idea of who he was, but he is famous for being the man who introduced mindfulness meditation to the medical community in the US. When I saw how much my mind and spirit controlled my health, I saw that I needed to take care of all of me to be well. And I saw how possible it was. Another catalyst was signing up to be a Law of Attraction coach. I never expected to be a true believer.
Q. How do you stay healthy, resilient and vibrant?
I eat healthy, avoiding gluten, corn, GMOs, stick to organic foods. I do allow myself the occasional indulgence, and I have a fondness for Starbucks, but generally I’m pretty rigid about my diet. I exercise, some kind of movement, regularly. I love yoga, dance, walking on the beach. And I have a strong self-healing practice including meditation, Reiki, Law of Attraction, prayer, and other healing modalities. And I believe in the power of pleasure.

Q. If there was only one thing a person could find the energy and resources to make a priority what would it be?
Identify what you believe in and practice that. Practice it like your hair is on fire.

Q. What is your favorite inspirational quote for wellness / awesomeness / thrival?

To me, good health is more than just exercise and diet. It’s really a point of view and a mental attitude you have about yourself. -Albert Schweitzer
I am a practicing physician with an MD and board certification in both General Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery. My background in surgery includes a deep understanding of physiology and anatomy of the body, including experience with chronic rectal pain, pelvic floor disorders, and incontinence. I also have extensive training in meditation, Buddhist philosophy, Reiki, and energy healing. Other ongoing training includes functional medicine and nutrition with an emphasis on detoxification, Peruvian shamanism, aromatherapy, and Light Body meditation. I am a certified Quantum Success Coaching Academy Coach, as well. Oh, and an Instigator.
