Liz Scully
Liz and Lindsay talk about the power of passion to inspire personal transformation…in this case Liz’s passion for cake.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself
Well, I’m Irish, I live in India and I spend most of my days coaching and giggling with clients and in between thinking about cake. It’s a good life.
Q: Tell us about your path to creating your business and your vision
I worked in film for years and although I loved it, I gradually realised I was working myself to death. Quite literally: I had a couple of big operations when my body started growing unexpected lumps.
After the second time it happened, I knew I had to make a major lifestyle changes, as I was running out of bits that could be removed. So I stepped out of film and began coaching full time.
I started working with stressed individuals who’d plateaued in their career or like me burned out. But over time, I’ve discovered that my true love – and talent – is helping people find their perfect career.
It’s so much fun helping people who feel they’re stuck, or going nowhere, get happy and directed and dash off to make their career dreams come true!
Q: Tell us a little about yourself and your philosophy on wellness:
Denying yourself things doesn’t work. I’ve been vegetarian since I was 17, and eat raw to a large degree. But I also have a more than healthy interest in fun foods, such as my beloved cake. Treating yourself is important, those little rewards matter.
Same with yoga – yes a regular practise is important. But it should feel joyful, not a chore. If it’s something you have to drag yourself through, it’s time to try something else. I loathed exercise till I found yoga: once I had, suddenly it was a lovely to move my body, not something to get through because you ‘should’.
Q: What was the catalyst in your life to fuel your commitment to wellness?
Having been very ill and not listened to my body – I know that now I really must. I listen when I get very tired, when before I would have powered through and cursed myself as lazy. Now, I just get an early night.
Q: How do you stay healthy, resilient and vibrant?
Yoga meditation and green juice – and lots and lots of sleep.
Q: What are the biggest challenges faced by the people that you work with?
Lack of time and the temptation to overwork. Everyone from new mums to CEOs is rushing through their day and denying their bodies proper rest. It’s just not good for people.
Q: If there was only one thing a person could find the energy and resources to make a priority what would it be?
Definitely meditation. A daily practise – even just a few minutes, will help every part of your life.
Q: What is your favorite inspirational quote for wellness / awesomeness / thrival?
Listen to your body!
